The day Tatum was born, I became a compulsive worrier. I fret about every little thing. There is no problem too big or too small that I haven't contemplated. Anyway, I have really been working on my food storage the past 6 or 7 months and I wanted to share some thoughts about it. I was really lazy about food storage up until this year because I didn't feel like we could afford it or I didn't feel like we had the space. The concept just seemed like too daunting of a task. But what I did was first have my wonderful husband put up this shelving in the laundry room. I took about $300.00 and went to the store and just got started. I took a picture of my shelves when I got all of my food loaded on there. (shown above) Anyway, I have been adding to it like crazy and I've doubled the amount of food since then, and I'm really relieved. I guess the whole point to this post is this.... I'm really grateful that I've been working on it. I worry a lot less about things now. Especially with Ned deploying and also the current economic crisis. I know that we don't have a ton of space or a ton of money to waste, but through working on my storage I have really gained a testimony that it's important to do it. My next step is to get my supply of toilet paper, toothpaste, diapers, shampoo, all of that good stuff. Can you imagine what would happen if all the stores out there could no longer get credit to buy thier inventory...what would happen if we couldn't get to the store to get those things? I hate to think about "worst case scenarios" but emergencies happen whether we think about them or not. Now when I want to go out to eat, buy a new shirt or something, I think to myself "this money would be better spent saving and preparing for a rainy day". I'm just so grateful that we're doing our best to do our part to live providently and provide safety for ourselves. I just really want to enourage anyone who's intimated by food storage to just start. Start somewhere even if it's like a can of tuna and keep adding to it! It's exciting to watch it grow!
